Turtle Quilt Completed
I completed the turtle quilt on August 22, 2010 at 4:35 p.m. I started this quilt on June 9, 2008. I designed the pattern on EQ6 based on a turtle fat quarter my aunt gave me. The quilt was machine pieced but completely hand quilted.

When you say:
The quilt was machine quilted but completely hand quilted.
Do you mean the squares were sewn together with the machine and the top bottom and stuffing were quilted together by hand? I don't know the proper terms... I ask because I am shopping for a basic sewing machine hoping to learn quilting this winter.
I love your quilt! Beautiful colors. Thanks for saying how long it took to do. I was curious. I'm afraid a quilt might take me years! If you can do one over the summer, it gives me hope.

My boo boo in trying to post while watching tv. It was machine pieced, where I sewed the squares together and then basted the back, batting, and top together by hand and then hand quilted.
I have made several other quilts while working on this one. It was the way I decided to hand quilt this one that took so long. Every swirl was outlined, along with every shape in the border. In the turtle squares I outlined 5 turtles in the square.
Get a good sewing machine. I started on a rather cheap basic model and I wore it out. Go to Texas Quiltworks in Rockwall and talk to them about a Bernina. They have some very reasonably priced ones and they can give you great advice. Even if you don't buy one there you will be educated.
I really love quilting. Playing with the colors gives me great joy.
