Waiting on the Print

When I visited the Mad Tatters booth at Cottonwood, Fall, 2012, there was a great piece that I must have.  Unfortunately, it was out of my price range for the day, but the artist did tell me he would be making prints.  I am anxiously awaiting the print of "Skating Demon" by Brandon Styles "Dr.B.Zurk"  Note there is a turtle in the corner saying "rad."

There is so much symbolism in this art that touches my life.  I wish I could have purchased the original piece.

More from Cottonwood Art Festival, Spring 2012

I bought more than just rings from the Cottonwood Art Festival today.

I added another print to my collection from Andy Van Schyndle, his booth is under the name Wagalabagala.  My oldest and his girlfriend have quite a collection from Andy, but I am only interested in his pieces that have turtles in them.  The print I bought today is entitled "A Tree Made for Swinging."

This is not the piece I purchased from Mark Radenacher of Eureka Springs, but it is the type of tile I purchased.  Really great man. I hope to visit him in his studio next time I am in Eureka Springs.

One of my favorite booths today was occupied by Jeff Dallas of Tile Tempo from Grafton, Wisconsin.  He had some awesome turtle art!  I could not afford the piece I really wanted, but I did come away with a small tile.

I also picked up a couple of tiles from the artists I bought my Breathe tile from at Artscape.

The oldest has some work to do tomorrow in getting my new pieces up on the walls.

I love Cottonwood Art Festival!

Cottonwood Art Festival, Spring 2012

Today was the first day of the Cottonwood Art Festival, Spring 2012.  One of my favorite art festivals of the year.  This year I had a mission to find a ring.  My boys had promised to give me a certain amount of money to buy a ring for my birthday as soon as I found one, knowing that I would want an arty looking ring.

I am pleased to say I fulfilled that mission, and also added two more rings to my collection.

Because BFF Asked

BFF asked that I post a link to the following artist that she bought some prints from at Cottonwood Arts Festival.  I have posted his link before because I have some of his prints, but I will do it again.

Cottonwood Arts Festival - Spring 2010

Yesterday I spent a glorious morning at the Cottonwood Arts Festival. The weather cooperated by not pouring rain on us this year, and it was not too windy. What a change from the last couple of years! All the artists were commenting on how happy they were that it was not raining.

Queen Jill (my BFF), my oldest and I arrived at the Festival not long after it opened.  Since QJ had not been there with me before I explained the way we worked the booths. I go up and down all the aisles and visit the booths that interest me.  If there is something in the booth that I am interested in purchasing, the oldest takes note of the booth number in his phone and when I have been through all the booths I go back and decide what I will purchase from the items I liked.  Purchases I make for my oldest I sometimes make right on the spot, or if it something I just know I cannot go home without, I definitely purchase it as I see it.  I go with a budget that comes from money I have set back specifically for the arts festivals I attend, and I know I cannot go over that budget without a very, very long talk with myself about my bank account.

Yesterday there were a lot of booths I enjoyed.

I purchased the "Knight, Death and the Devil ("In the Age of Reason") from Tanya Doskova. It is the artist's rendition of the 21st Century, starting with the hanging chad, and includes Bush and Cheney.  It was a must for our family.  I gave it to the oldest so that he could add it to his art collection.

The oldest and I also purchased pieces from Andy Van Schyndle. My purchase was his "Light My Way Home Little Acorn Lantern." The oldest bought two pieces to give his girlfriend.

I bought a paperweight for my desk at the office from Ingrid Hanson. It will also serve as a worry stone when I need it.

I purchased a clock from Macone Clay. They don't have the type I purchased on their website, but I love it. Their booth was extremely crowded and they were doing a booming business.

My favorite booth was Scott and Vicki Supraner's Hawksbill Pottery.  I bought several pieces from them, including a piece for QJ.
I love being able to add unusual pieces to my turtle collection.

QJ surprised me with a puzzle from Eric Dowdle. I love quilt puzzles. The website has a way you can do the puzzles online.  Very cool.

We ended the adventure with lunch at Rockfish.  I love their roasted jalapeno cream soup with 1/2 shrimp poboy.

It was a wonderful day.  It would have been a perfect day if my youngest had been available to attend with us.

Cottonwood Art Festival, Spring 2009

What a lousy weekend for the poor artists at the Spring 2009 Cottonwood Art Festival. I don't think they are going to be impressed with their sales.

First the swine flu is keeping people away from crowded areas, and then the weather has trashed out their site for the weekend.

The boys and I arrived at the festival yesterday right after the heavy rains. Most of the booths had shut down. The grounds were flooded to the point that I had water over my ankles at one time. The areas where the water was not standing, were caked in squishy mud.

Despite all that, I saw some terrific art in the few booths that had opened back up.

I enjoyed visiting with Dan Ferguson of DaNisha Sculpture. He was running a rainy day special of 15% off, but he did not have any turtles.

Mike and Patty Albin's art is breathtaking. You can go to www.albinarts.com to see their amazing art, which is a blend of photography and painting. I wish I could afford one of their pieces. They had a wildflower piece that actually made me gasp it was just so incredibly stunning.

Julia Watkins' energism art is amazing. She had prints available as well as originals, but the prints did not do justice to her work. They do not capture the lushness of the colors and the amazing ridges in the paint. It was fun to look at the paintings and try to see the hidden creature. When you look at them on the website the hidden items are obvious, but when you see them in person, especially before you know you are to be looking for something, you do not notice what is hidden.

Tai Poon had beautiful pieces, but not really a style I would purchase. However, I did enjoy going through all his prints.

I thought about going back down there today, but decided that I had sloshed through enough. I talked to enough people and saw some enough beautiful things to be satisfied this time around.

I would have liked to have seen more of the work by Roderick Stevens. He had some amazing items, but unfortunately most of the ones I saw were covered in plastic to keep them dry in the rain. I did laugh at the "Davinc a Sketch" though.

I hope the fall show has better weather.
