Mark Manders Exhibit

When I was at the Dallas Museum of Art Friday night I was able to go through the Mark Manders exhibit a couple of times.  I was not really familiar with his work before.  

My favorite pieces of the exhibit were:

Short Sad Thoughts

Perspective Study

Still Life with Books, Table and Fake Newspaper

 

 

The "Perspective Study" was my favorite by far because of the random words on the fake newspapers.  

One thing I discovered, if you visit a particular area of an exhibit enough the silent dudes that stand in the corner to tell you not to touch will start up a conversation with you and they can be quite funny.  

Great exhibit. 

RED Opens February 3

This fabulous teapot is by my friend Kathleen Becherer and will be part of the RED exhibit, opening reception February 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Gallery 8680, Frisco, TX. I am so excited for her!

 

My Second Surprise from Hawaii - Art from Mina

Mina surprised me with a signed and personalized piece of art from her trip to Hawaii with Loni.

I love the colors and how peaceful the turtle looks as it is floating in the water.  Almost like it is doing water ballet.  

Thank you Mina.  You know you can't go wrong when it comes to Mama C if it is art with turtles involved.  

Beautiful New Art Piece - Autumn in the Catskills

Loni was in Nashville, TN on business travel this week and when she returned she brought with her a surprise for me.  A beautiful new piece of art  - Autumn in the Catskills (1871)  by Sanford Robinson Gifford.    The original is displayed as part of the James M. Cowan Collection at The Parthenon in Nashville, Tennessee. (I still don't get why there is a replica of the Parthenon in Nashville, but that is another post all together.)

I love this piece.  It really speaks to me. Thank you so much Loni.
